Thursday 26 December 2013 - Kalbarri
Well, we’ve had ourselves very merry Kalbarri Kristmas. Despite Glenn making several attempts to catch a decent feed of fish over the past week, he’s had no luck, so we had to satisfy ourselves with crayfish, ham, pork, beef, chicken, turkey and a myriad of salads, plus dessert (!) at Christmas lunch instead. What a feast! I did my first ever roast ham (in our new friend, the Baby Q) thanks to Mum’s encouragement and it was pretty awesome, even if I do say so myself. We all ate at the manager’s house, where the table had been set for days in preparation and even included seats for the girls, which was really sweet. They received little gifts from Tracey (one of the managers) and Penny (one of the cleaners), which also made them feel quite special. When they can’t be with their extended family at a time like this, it’s really nice that other people make the effort to interact with them like their aunties, uncles and grandparents would. And of course, there’s no shortage of kids around at the moment for them to play with, but they do still miss their cousins and friends lots.
Christmas morning was pretty special too. I got up really early and went for a run (earning my pudding credits!) and then got back just in time for the girls to wake up. They came outside and grinned from ear to ear when they saw Santa had been. After unwrapping everything and getting a few photos, they ate some croissants (Baby Q again!) and then took off to play with the other kids and their new toys. Sienna got a balance bike so she was giving it a good workout and was starting to get the hang of it by the evening, when I took them to the skate park for a little ride.
The whole caravan park was buzzing all day, so by the end of it there were a few tired and cranky kids, but fortunately we got ours into bed before meltdown and they woke up happy and rested today. It’s getting even busier, with a whole heap of new arrivals pulling in throughout the day and plenty more coming tomorrow, so the park will be at full capacity. We had some really nice neighbours behind us for the past few days, a family from Geraldton. Even though they had two boys (aged 4 and 8), Sienna was very keen to hang out with them, especially their mum Meagan. They left earlier today and another family with a 4-year-old daughter and a baby boy have taken their place, so Yasmin is quite thrilled.
