Thursday 9 January 2014 - Perth, WA

Thursday 9 January 2014 - Perth, WA

Wow, we’re in the big smoke! We’ve been here one night and are leaving tomorrow and it’ll be just in time too... we’re definitely not city folk! That being said, it’s been quite exciting finally reaching Perth and seeing it for ourselves, but all the usual busyness and traffic that comes with a city is quite draining after not having to deal with it for so long. Especially after the quiet, relaxed mode of Leeman! On our drive down yesterday we called into Guilderton for a little (wee) stop and the kids played on the playground. It was a very picturesque little area, a little like Kalbarri with the river right by the sea – great for families.

After we arrived in Perth and set up (paying the most we ever have for a site – $49.50 with a 10% discount after joining the Top Tourist parks), we drove to Fremantle for a quick look. We didn’t get right around it but it seems pretty awesome – we’ll be returning when we come back after our Jurien Bay stay. The evening passed pleasantly enough again, with another awesome meal courtesy of Baby Q (lamb chops and grilled veggies) and a reasonably early night.

Today the car went into the doctor to get the fuel injectors sorted out (I think that’s what it was anyway) so we took the bus into the city and went exploring for the day. The centre of town didn’t have much to offer us (cause we’re not ‘shoppers’) so we went to Northbridge, which is the ‘trendier’ part, but much of it wasn’t open until midday. The museum was really good, with a great kids’ section, plus there was a nifty outdoor musical area in the art precinct. I got a really quick glimpse through the ground level of the art gallery, then it was Mexican for lunch and off to Kings Park for a quick play on the playground. There are free buses that take you everywhere through the inner city region which we jumped on and off all day – awesome and very exciting for the kids! After picking up the car we came back to chill at the caravan park for a little while, giving me time to write this.
