Sunday 19 January 2014 - Jurien Bay, WA

Sunday 19 January 2014 - Jurien Bay, WA

It’s warmed up enough to hit the beach these past few days, so we’ve spent an hour or so each morning digging for pippies, swimming out to the pontoon, jumping off the jetty and simply soaking up the relaxed vibe at one of the most beautiful beaches I’ve seen. The caravan park is pretty much on the water, so we only have to walk through it and we’re at the foreshore, which has a great kids playground and then it’s the beach! It’s all very kid-suitable, with no big dunes to climb and the tide is pretty much non-existent so it’s not a big walk to the water’s edge either. Sienna carried on a bit the first day we went to the beach, but she’s got the hang of it now. Neither girl spends much time in the water though – even though it’s at least 30 degrees, the water is still ‘fresh’!

Yesterday we went back to Mandy’s sister Kylie’s to cook up our pippies (they’re tiny but tasty, especially done in garlic!) and then we returned to camp for afternoon snoozes. Once we all woke up, we were going to have a drink with Mandy but Glenn was getting the boat ready for this morning so by the time he was all sorted, we’d run out of time and energy. We had a bludgy evening at the caravan park, watching the sun set over the water while the girls spent more time on the playground.

This morning Glenn set out first thing while the wind was down (it’s calm in the morning, until around 11am when the southerly starts to pick up) to try his luck. Unfortunately he hasn’t got any, as he returned empty-handed. When he got back we all hit the beach and then after a brief lunch, took a drive down to Cervantes. I had a look at Lake Thetis and the stromatolites and thrombolites while Glenn hung out with Candy Crush and the two sleeping beauties in the car (how convenient). Then we drove a short distance to a lookout with a very steep staircase – I climbed it (again, girls were asleep) and it was definitely worth it because the view was magnificent. It would look even better in the morning before the water got rough and full of whitecaps, but it was still pretty awesome. Then we went for a little meander through some dune tracks and came out to some deserted but pretty beaches, although they were full of weed. After a quick drive through town we returned to Jurien and whiled away the afternoon, me taking Yasmin for a little walk around the block and Glenn entertaining Sienna (every now and then they need some time apart).

Christmas parcel from Grandma and Grandpa arrived!
