Sunday 11 August 2013 - Broome
Well, we finally did a bit of fun stuff last weekend! On the Saturday Glenn got us invited to a corporate tent at the Kimberley Cup. He went to the op shop and bought a shirt and shoes for $12. I splashed out a little more on my outfit – the whole ensemble cost $26 (shoes $7, dress $6, accessories $13). It’s a fantastic store, I think I’m now addicted to op shopping!
The races were good fun. We got Sienna down for an early nap, dolled ourselves up, then jumped on the bus. There were lots of other kids there so the girls had fun and Glenn and I could relax and partake of a few complimentary beverages. Unfortunately the food wasn’t that flash – boxes of pizzas were placed unceremoniously on each table. But hey, beggars can’t be choosers. Glenn did all the punting, a few placings meant we came out only slightly behind. The free bus home afterwards was pretty cool too.

On Sunday we took a drive up to the ‘northern beaches’, which are the western beaches just north of Broome. They’re much more natural and rugged and require a 4wd to access the region. We packed the girls’ swimmers and sand toys, but they weren’t that keen on getting in the water because the wind was blowing and although the sun was hot, the ocean wasn’t! Hopefully when we go to stay at Middle Lagoon next week it’s not so cool.

This weekend was also quite exciting because Glenn’s parents and their friend Coryn arrived yesterday morning. They’d left Brisbane about two weeks ago and had just finished doing the Tanami before hitting Broome-town. Although Yasmin took a while to warm up to them, she’s barely left their caravan since, even sleeping over last night. Sienna is equally thrilled to see her grandparents, asking for ‘Gandad’ as soon as she wakes. Needless to say, Glenn and I are just as happy to have a break from our darling angels while they catch up with Nanna and Grandad.
