Friday 2 August 2013 - Broome

Friday 2 August 2013 - Broome

Time is slowly ticking by and we’re now only a few weeks away from saying goodbye to Broome. The kids are back to full health and sleeping well, so we’re feeling much more balanced and on track. My one-month gym membership concluded at the end of July and it’s a bit too pricey to continue for the next fortnight or so, but there’s still plenty to keep the girls busy with. We’ve been to the kinda-gym program at the PCYC twice and will probably go again next week. Today we visited the library, plus they never get sick of the park.

I’ve been amusing myself by counting how many people I can get to smile at me or say good morning/afternoon when we’re out on the bike (about 10%) and playing washing wars with the Broomads at the caravan park laundry. You’re allowed to wash from 7am and twice this week I was there within minutes of that time (7:11am and 7:06am) to find all four machines already in use. It’s a bit of a mission to traipse up there with a huge bag of clothes and two girls (who insist on looking at every rock and leaf or wandering off towards other campsites along the way) so I thought I was doing pretty well, but obviously you’ve got to be there queued up before the hour even strikes! No fear though, we all have clean dry clothes to wear everyday, despite the apparent risk to the contrary (as perceived by the desperation these Broomads display in getting their laundry done!)...

If you detect a slight cynical note in my tone, you’d be spot on. We’ve met some absolutely spectacular and interesting people on our travels, but I’d have to say these past five weeks have been quite disappointing in the friendliness stakes. There have been some lovely people camped near us, but there’ve also been a few ‘doozies’! However, I won’t dwell on the negative – suffice to say that we won’t miss Broome all that much when we do leave. ;)
