Well even though it’s been a while, there isn’t all that much to report. We’ve pretty much reverted to the usual lifestyle we had in Mackay, where Glenn went to work and I tried to keep the kids busy and happy. It’s not bad, but it makes you realise how much your friends matter when you don’t have a social network to break it up. Glenn is enjoying clocking off as soon as he finishes work (as opposed to all the extra stuff he had to do when he ran a business) and I’m enjoying not having any other responsibilities other than minding the girls (eg business books, running a ‘proper’ household etc), but it’s still not as much fun as touring.
I’ve joined the gym, so the girls can get some social interaction with other kids (and play with real toys!) and also so I can have a little bit of me-time. The rest of the days we spend doing mini-outings – to the beach, the park, the shopping centre, the library etc, as well as pottering around the campsite. I don’t like to spend too much time there because some of the grey nomads aren’t that impressed with little ones. They don’t seem all that impressed with us anyway, but that’s another story...
It was freezing cold at night for the first week (I clocked it at 12 degrees at 6:30am one day) but now it’s much more comfortable, even a touch too warm in the daytime, but the girls are still able to get a nap so it’s nothing to complain about. Unfortunately the climate change has knocked Sienna about and she’s developed tonsillitis. A doctor visit on Saturday produced a script for some pretty strong antibiotics and she was well enough by her 2nd birthday (yesterday) to eat two serves of cake. Her illness over the past week and a half has tuckered us all out though, as she’s waking several times through the night and finding it hard to settle back to sleep from about 4-4:30am onwards.
