Sunday 26 January 2014 - Perth, WA
All good things often come to an end and today we said farewell to Jurien, but more significantly, yesterday we said goodbye to the Scotts and their gorgeous family. We had a great time with them over the past few days, Glenn especially as Hilton arrived on Wednesday. Thursday night was a big one, as we celebrated Mandy and Kylie’s mum’s fourth 21st birthday (she’s 84!). On Friday we had to move camps because we extended our stay. It wasn’t fun after less than four hours sleep (and Glenn had a nasty hangover on top of it) but it was topped off by the news yesterday that we didn’t need to change sites after all, as the people who had our first site booked for that day didn’t turn up!
My Friday morning was made all the more special by Sienna waking up at 5am. We were all staying at Kylie and Lance’s house, after heading there for a nightcap from Nana Nora’s (they only live a few streets away). Yasmin went to sleep a little while after we got there, but Sienna was up well past midnight. I finally got her to sleep and then piked myself not long after, but Glenn partied on for a while still. It was dark and quiet when Sienna woke up and I tried to get her to go back to sleep, but she wasn’t interested. After a few minutes (I think, I was in a semi-comatose state), she says “Mummy I done a poo”. Even in my very unheightened awareness, I knew she’d pull a stunt like this!
Of course, we’d used the last of the nappies for the impromptu sleepover so I threw her in the car, drove back to camp and changed her. She was in one of those hyper-happy moods but I knew it wouldn’t last, plus she was very noisy at a time when all the normal people prefer to sleep. So I thought I’d take her for a drive, in the hope that she’d fall asleep and not have a total meltdown a few hours later due to her very late night and very early start. We set off towards the lookout just out of town and then I realised it was the same way as the national park (Mt Leuseur), so we drove the 20km out there, did the 18km scenic loop through the park before returning to camp to begin the packup. She slept the whole way, except when I briefly got out of the car to read some signs.
