Saturday 20 April 2013 - Darwin

Saturday 20 April 2013 - Darwin

We hit the road again, departing Limbunya on Tuesday. Glenn did his last day of work on Sunday and we spent all of Monday recovering, packing, preparing for travel and ‘normal’ life again. Jean, the French backpacker, came along for the ride as he wanted to finish up on the station sooner than he originally thought and he didn’t have his own transport. We overnighted in Katherine, paid a quick visit to the hot springs the following morning, then set out for Darwin around smoko time on Wednesday. We dropped Jean off at his accommodation (he carries a backpack, stays at a backpacker hotel but insists he’s not a backpacker!) and then headed over to the caravan park that Adam and Nee stayed at when we flew to Darwin in 2010.

The last few days have been spent doing errands like groceries and picking up boat and car parts, as well as giving the girls some quality kid fun-time. There’s a nice pool in the caravan park that we’ve visited quite a few times. We also took them to the wave pool yesterday afternoon and they had a ball – Sienna like the big rollers and Yasmin learnt to ride a boogy board. We won’t mention Sienna’s little ‘indiscrepancy’ in the public pool...

We tried to take the board for its maiden voyage yesterday morning, but the motor didn’t cooperate. Glenn got it working again with some new parts, but we still haven’t been out fishing yet. Today we visited some markets and enjoyed some delicious food (heaps of Asian and Middle Eastern influence here) and then went to the museum where the girls played in the kid’s room for an hour while Glenn and I cooled off in the air con. The other night we had fish and chips by the water after visiting Lake Alexander, which has a great big playground that the girls burnt some steam off at.

Another highlight was our very own up-close-and-personal croc encounter! Yesterday morning, after the boat debacle, a NT ranger boat was pulled up in front of us and there was a 3.5m croc tied up inside. They very kindly allowed us to give him a pat and get a few photos before he was taken to ‘the farm’.

Katherine Hot Springs
My hottie and two girls

They weren't particularly hot, but in this weather you wouldn't want them to be!

Very clear water
The view from the bridge

Yeah, water

More clear water
Glenn, the girls and Jean (our French backpacker)

Glenn couldn't get over this... a guy polishing his car with an actual buffer machine - in a caravan park!

He has a very shiny Swagman to go with his shiny Suzuki

Lake Alexander

Yep, same lake

And again...

Yas playing at Lake Alexander

Glenn actually took a photo for once!

Fuelling up for her maiden voyage

Attempting to launch... she didn't get out far as the motor wouldn't start :(

Sienna makes friends with the locals

Yes, that is a 3.5m croc

This was one of six caught in two days

Guess who took this photo?
Our $5 dump car that Glenn got working

Looks pretty pleased with himself doesn't he?

Yasmin on the little vehicle.. it lasted for a few hours and then Glenn killed it again
Sienna showering at the pool (thinks she's clever turning it off and on again)

See?
