Sunday 3 March 2013 - Bladensburg National Park (near Winton)

Sunday 3 March 2013 - Bladensburg National Park (near Winton)

It seems we were being tested on Friday – either that or the memo that summer was over reached Winton a day late – because Saturday was an absolutely gorgeous day. The night cooled down deliciously so we could all sleep soundly and the morning dawned clear and cool. We even kept light long sleeved shirts on until mid-morning. The breeze blew strongly all day and even though it warmed up quite a lot, a quick dip in the creek was enough to cool us down.

Glenn and I are both fighting the feeling that we should be ‘doing something’. The girls are occupying themselves a lot more and as we’re not in any great rush to pack up and leave, there’s not a lot that we have to do. Glenn’s biggest occupation yesterday was to bake another loaf of bread. While Sienna slept and Yasmin watched a movie in the car (a special treat – not something we want to encourage her to do too much of) I pulled out my gym mat and went through a yoga routine. It’s wonderful having so much time to read and relax, but quite hard to shake the feeling that we should be more productive. Oh well, give it time! :)

So yesterday was fairly uneventful. We all managed an afternoon nap when the sun was high, thanks to the breeze and our little camper fans. We were visited again by the great big goanna, who seems determined to make us understand that this is his territory and we shouldn’t be invading it. Glenn persuaded it to rack off, with a little assistance from a certain tool named after a city in China.

The other great thing about staying here is that it’s costing us very little to live. Every time we’re in a town, we can’t help but spend money. Obviously we have to buy food and fuel to be out here, but because the shops are not within a convenient distance, we’re making do with the groceries we have. We’re still eating well, getting all the nutrients we need, just not quite as much variety that we’ll have when we do head back to town. Accommodation is also much cheaper at just $10.30 a night. And entertainment is free. After putting the girls to bed and eating our own dinner, Glenn and I did the dishes and then pulled our chairs out to a clearing to look up at the night sky.
